Arthritis is the generic term covering over a hundred of disorders related to joint pain. Inflammation of the joints as well as destruction of them is attributed to the pain of arthritis. There are a myriad of things that can cause arthritis, and the type of arthritis diagnosed provides the cause.
The aches and pains that we get as we age are attributed usually to Osteoarthritis. Auto immune disorders are linked to rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Some forms of arthritis can be from traumatic injury to viral or bacterial infections. In order to determine the type of arthritis requires diagnosis by a physician; however, some of the tests used in diagnosis are available through DirectLabs®.
The Arthritis Package has the: 1) ANA (Antinuclear Antibodies Direct) – used to check for juvenile chronic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis; 2)C-Reactive Protein, Quantitative (CRP) – tests for inflammation: 3) Complete Blood Count (CBC) – checks for infection versus inflammation; 4) Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP-14) – also used to rule out infection versus inflammation; 5) Rheumatoid Factor (RA) – tests for Rheumatoid Arthritis; 6) Sedimentation Rate – screens for inflammation; and 6) Uric Acid-checks for gout which is a type of arthritis.
