Description:
Estriol, also known as E3, is the major estrogen in pregnant females and provides an objective assessment of placental function.
During pregnancy, the placenta converts DHEA-S produced by the fetal adrenals to Estriol and other estrogens. Estriol is useful in assessing the fetal adrenals and placenta. More commonly, Estriol is one of the maternal serum biochemical markers used to screen for common chromosomal trisomies, especially Down syndrome.

Methodology:
Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS)
