Luteinizing hormone (LH) is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. Control of LH production is a complex system involving hormones produced by the gonads (ovaries or testes), the pituitary, and the hypothalamus.
LH is often used in conjunction with other tests in the workup of infertility in both men and women.


Clinical Significance
This test is useful in the differential diagnosis of pituitary and gonadal insufficiency and in children with precocious puberty.
