Vitamin D, 1,25-Dihydroxy, LC/MS/MS (Calcitriol)
Fasting Required: No

Specimen: Blood

Results: 3-5 Business Days

Description: 1,25-Dihydroxy Vitamin D (Calcitriol) is the hormonally active metabolite of vitamin D. Calcitriol increases the level of calcium in the blood by increasing the uptake of calcium from the gut into the blood, and possibly increasing the release of calcium into the blood from bone. Levels may be high in primary hyperparathyroidism and may be decreased in hypoparathyroidism and chronic renal failure.

This test measures the bioactive form of vitamin D. It is used in the differential diagnosis of hypocalcemia and to monitor patients with renal osteodystrophy or chronic renal failure. This test is not suitable for diagnosis of vitamin D deficiency and monitoring supplementation in most patients. The 25-hydroxyvitamin D test is the recommended test for those purposes

Includes: Vitamin D,1,25 (OH)2, Total; Vitamin D3, 1,25 (OH)2; Vitamin D2, 1,25 (OH)2

Methodology: Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS)
