Description: This test may be performed if you have, or are at risk for, Type 1 Diabetes. Combined with family history, HLA-typing, and other autoantibodies, including GD65S/81596 Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD65) Antibody Assay, Serum and islet cell antigen 2 (IA-2) antibodies this test is useful in predicting the future development of type 1 diabetes in asymptomatic children, adolescents, and young adults.

It can also provide a differential diagnosis of type 1 versus type 2 diabetes
